[vbox-users] USB Microphone / Voice Recognition (Dragon NaturallySpeaking)

I think I have found the solution! It had nothing to do with the microphone - which is a stock telex microphone that came with the program.

After hours of fiddling, from synaptic, I download the low latency version of the linux kernel. I tested sound recorder and then the microphone sounded like in Windows and Dragon Naturally Speaking works flawlessly - which surprised me - this is a 3.5 year old PC and this is one resource hungry program.

Hello Linux, Goodbye Windows! (Kind of, we'll see how seamless rdesktop works...)

Goodbye dual-booting in any case!

I first wanted to ask if there are other users of Dragon Naturally Speaking on Virtualbox? What is the speed of your computer? Is it reasonably fast?

And second, my usb microphone simply doesn't seem to be sampled at a fast enough rate - using no major apps, I tried to record my voice using Window's Sound Recorder but it comes out like it's sampling only half the rate (it's missing what I say at a steady rate - stuffs comes out nonsensible). I never had this problem with same microphone under normal windows, just virtualizing it under Ubuntu.

Are using realtime devices a problem for virtualization? I think I have enough memory (2.5 GB) and my P4 2.6Ghz should be able to handle it - neither Ubuntu's nor Windows Memory or CPU monitors are anywhere near to maxing out - and the other sizable apps I do run work well.
